will be on the previous day only from 11 am to 8pm.
We will accept group registrations, so send a
friend if you cannot make it!

2006 Event
Details
A circular,
110 & 160km non competitive road cycle challenge ride over the hills
and valleys of South Wales.
Promoted and organised by BreakAway
Cycling
The event is designed for experienced cyclist's, unlike shorter
charity rides this it is not a leisure ride and should only be attempted
by reasonably fit and competent riders. The event takes place three weeks
before the Tour of France Etape participation ride, why not use the DRAGON
RIDE as training for the Etape.

Entry fee £14.
Maximum entry 1500 riders.
Minimum age 14 accompanied by parent, 18 - "Old Dragon", unaccompanied.
Event Details:
Start and finish at Bridgend, South Wales. (Bridgend is situated between
Cardiff and Swansea with good road and rails links).
Route will be identified with direction arrows. Refreshment point/s will
be situated along the route. Mechanical back up, medical and rescue/support
vehicles.
Route
The route takes in two classic UK category 1 climbs as used in the past
on the Tour of Britain, for the longer route a steep, short, sharp climb
in the heart of the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park. The latter
part of the ride winds it's way down the former mining valleys of the
Rhondda Ogmore and Garw.
Medio Fondo 110km
Start Bridgend Recreation Centre, from 08.00am, west along A48
to Port Talbot, A4107 Afan Valley, B4287 to Cimla (Neath). North along
the A4230/A4109/B4242 to Glynneath (150km split), Hirwaun, South on A4061
over the Rhigos mountain road to Treorchy, Bwlch mountain road, Nantymoel,
A4093 Llangeinor, A4064 Brynmenyn, Tondu A4065/4063. Finish is back at
Bridgend Recreation Centre.
(Approx. 1280m of climbing, 180m up on 2004).
Gran Fondo 160km
As above route plus 50km loop A4109/A4221 Abercraf, A4067 Dan-yr Ogof,
Defynnog, Heol Senni, Ystradfellte, Penderyn. Rejoin above route at Hirwaun.
